Pizza shop employee becomes whistleblower after kitchen discovery: 'Instead of fixing it, the managers... pretend nothing's happening'

If this pizza parlor employee could give out any advice, it would be NOT eat at their place of employment, no matter how hungry you might be. 

This brave employee is acting as a whistleblower, and we can't commend them enough. It's never easy to speak truth to power… and as this person has shared, their bosses don't even seem interested in fixing this particular problem.

The problem is a big one, and one that could get them in some serious trouble. Their fridges are broken, which is about as serious as it gets for a restaurant owner! A broken fridge is going to affect almost every ingredient in your pizza pie — the dough, cheese, and toppings all live in that fridge. If the fridge temperature gets too warm, you'll watch as your cheese turns blue with mold and your peppers wilt away. You simply can't run a restaurant this way, and it's shocking that a restaurant owner or manager wouldn't treat this as priority #1. 

This worker was brave enough to document the fridge's sky-high temperatures. Just so we're all clear, the ideal temperature for an industrial fridge is 40° or less, with around 37° being the ideal measurement. If the fridge's internal temperature rises to 50° or higher, according to this worker, food should be instantly thrown away. It can start growing bacteria that can make customers sick. There's nothing like a bout of food poisoning to ensure a regular customer never steps foot in that pizza parlor ever again. 

It's workers like this, who are risking their livelihoods to protect innocent customers, who should really be running the restaurant. Shame on any manager who would allow their customers to eat rancid food! It should simply never happen, and there needs to be a serious line of inquiry into who let this happen in the first place. The buck must stop with someone. This is honestly the kind of story that local news media would be thrilled to find out about! 

I know that most restaurants have some kind of issues — maybe they have a lot of roaches or mice that come out at night, or perhaps they don't treat their employees the best. But no matter what, issues of food safety can never be ignored. I hope this person updates their post to share what happens next, whether the place gets shut down, or whether there's a much-needed change in management.
